Senegal Opens Major Energy Investment Opportunities for International Partners

The Government of Senegal is inviting international investors and technical partners to take part in two major energy projects aimed at strengthening the country’s power supply and supporting long-term economic growth. These initiatives reflect Senegal’s commitment to building a modern, reliable, and diversified energy system through strong public-private partnerships.

  • The first opportunity has been launched by the Fonds souverain d’Investissements stratégiques (FONSIS). It concerns the development, financing, construction, and operation of a 500 MW natural gas power plant. This strategic project will help meet growing electricity demand while making use of Senegal’s emerging gas resources. The deadline for submission is 20 March 2026 at 12:00 GMT.
  • At the same time, Senelec (the National Electricity supplier) has launched an international tender for the construction of solar power plants with a total capacity of 500 MWp, coupled with an advanced energy storage system of 100 MW / 400 MWh. This project will be implemented under an EPCF model (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Financing). The deadline for submission is 22 April 2026 at 09:30 GMT.

Together, these projects are part of Senegal’s broader strategy to increase electricity generation capacity and diversify the national energy mix. By combining natural gas and renewable energy, Senegal aims to strengthen energy security, improve reliability of supply, and support the country’s economic transformation.

These initiatives also offer a strong opportunity for international companies, investors, and technology partners to work alongside the Government of Senegal in a win-win partnership. Through collaboration with national institutions and local stakeholders, partners will contribute to sustainable infrastructure development while participating in one of West Africa’s most dynamic energy markets.

Senegal remains committed to creating an open and transparent investment environment and welcomes experienced partners who are ready to support the country’s vision for a resilient and sustainable energy future.
