London-based Senegalese filmmaker Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba Diop has won the Best Animation award at the Vues d’Afrique International Film Festival for his poignant short film “All Equal.”
The festival, held in Montréal Canada from April 3-13, showcased 127 films from 32 countries around the world.
Diop’s winning animation released in 2024, centers on a village fire where a grandfather recounts to his grandchildren the moving story of their ancestors’ enslavement by slave traders, chronicling their harrowing struggle for freedom, the battles they fought, and the sacrifices made along the way.
The film ultimately celebrates the resilience and unity of their community while paying tribute to the indomitable spirit of ancestors who fought for freedom. Congratulations Bamba Diop!!
